Eliezer Abate

Documentary Filmmaker

I make feature-length documentary films about Ethiopian history and its collision with the wider world — how a three-thousand-year-old state met empires, survived the Scramble for Africa, and became the country it is today.

I'm the founder of GraspWell, an independent documentary media company. The films are built on years of primary-source research — diplomatic archives, explorers' journals, correspondence between emperors, and other contemporary sources.

Before this: I was a software engineer at Meta and LinkedIn, and studied Computer Science at Stanford.
